PEABODY, Mass., April 20, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), a leading provider of medical imaging and aviation security technology, announced today that the Flex Focus™ mobile ultrasound scanner, designed and manufactured by its BK Medical subsidiary, has received a 2010 Red Dot Product Design Award.

The Red Dot Award, given by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, is one of the largest and most renowned product design awards in the world. This year, an expert panel of jurors evaluated 4,252 entries based on criteria that included degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, and durability. The competition drew submissions from more than 1,600 companies across 57 countries. Since its inception in 1955, the coveted Red Dot award has been recognized as a seal of quality marking outstanding international product design.

The Flex Focus is a full-featured mobile ultrasound solution that is lightweight, easy to use, and features proprietary IQPAC™ technology for advanced image quality. “We are pleased to receive a prestigious Red Dot Award,” said Michael Brock, president of BK Medical. “We have been hearing from the medical community that the Flex Focus has the features they want in an ultrasound solution. Receiving this design award reaffirms our belief that the high performance of the Flex Focus, coupled with its innovative, award-winning design, makes it a truly revolutionary product.” In March, the Flex Focus won a 2010 iF Product Design Gold Award, an internationally recognized symbol of design excellence awarded by the Hanover, Germany-based organization International Forum Design.
