The FETALGARD Lite Recorder offers two styles of paper: USA and INT. What is the difference?

Every new FETALGARD Lite is supplied with two packs of paper, one USA style, the other International (INT) style. What would happen if I use the wrong style?

The paper style, either USA or INT, is set in the Communications menu. If the incorrect paper style is chosen the ultrasound paper recording will appear incorrect. The USA scaling is graphically represented from 30 to 240 bpm, while the INT scale is 50 to 210 bpm.

Ultrasound transducers, USWB vs. U/S: What are the differences?

The FETALGARD Lite monitor offers two distinctly different styles of ultrasound transducer families: the USWB single-element style, beam pattern shown in Figure 1, and the U/S multi-element style, Figure 2. Both provide excellent beam coverage. The USWB single-element transducers are very compact and waterproof while the U/S multi-element transducers, if damaged, are easily repairable.

Should I upgrade my FGL to software Version 3?

If you are currently using a FGL with an operating firmware version prior to 3.00 and are not experiencing any difficulties, then the clear answer is no. However, some FGL users have experienced occasional difficulties when trying to export data to external data collection devices or systems. As consumer electronic devices have evolved, communication protocols must evolve with them. FGL Version 3.xx has addressed some of these issues. Contact your local Analogic representative or distributor for details.

How do I connect my Laptop to the FGL with no serial port?

FETALGARD Lite View is a convenient tool for archiving FGL data on a PC. A direct connection between the FGL and PC is easily accomplished through the PC’s serial port. However, laptops today typically do not support a serial connection. What do you do?

At your local PC hardware supplier (Radio Shack, Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.) purchase a USB-to-serial adapter, typically around $40. You will also need a null-modem adapter and, possibly, a gender adapter, as this configuration must be female-to-female.

You will notice that in the FETALGARD Lite Receiver, another COM Port will have been added. This new port must be the one enabled.
